I've had a lifelong interest in combining images with the printed word and I have always enjoyed the use of visual language as a form of art. In particular, I like languages that use pictorial elements, iconography and glyphs. I've worked for 35 years in reprographics, website design and application development. This background and a love of drawing, carving and creating has led me to wanting a physical space where I could create works using traditional printing methods.
There's also a sense of history and preservation here. Nothing in the garage is electrical, everything is physical and manually operated. This is not a commercial print shop and I won't be taking orders or working on commissions or setting up long print runs. This is art not reprographics! To sum all that up;
This is a place that celebrates ink rolled onto lead or wooden blocks and pressed against paper.
I'll be posting regular blog entries about art, printing and the space I've built to do those things. I'll be writing about techniques, ink, typefaces, woodcutting, linocutting, leadcutting, printing presses and I'll also be posting some previews and work in progress shots of my own artwork.
